Perilous Plunge

Perilous Plunge featured a 121-foot tall structure with boats ascending before making a sharp turn and descending at 53 miles per hour into a splashdown lagoon.

The attraction operated from September 15, 2000, until September 3, 2012, when it closed to make space for three new rides: Coast Rider, Pacific Scrambler, and Surfside Gliders.

The nine-million-dollar Shoot the Chute ride established records as the tallest and steepest water-based attraction in the world when it opened in 2000.

The ride transported 1,900 visitors per hour in 24-passenger boats, requiring guests to wear safety harnesses and prepare for substantial water exposure during the experience.

Following a safety incident in 2001, the ride underwent modifications including the addition of four-point harness systems and new boat designs to enhance passenger security.
