Perilous Plunge, Water ride attraction at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, United States.
Perilous Plunge was a water ride at Knott's Berry Farm in California featuring a tower structure that lifted boats before they descended into a splashdown pool. The boats made a sharp turn at the top before dropping at a steep angle toward the water below.
The attraction opened on September 15, 2000, and closed on September 3, 2012. The space was later used for three new rides that replaced it.
The nine-million-dollar Shoot the Chute ride established records as the tallest and steepest water-based attraction in the world when it opened in 2000.
Each boat held 24 passengers who wore safety harnesses during the ride. Visitors got soaked during the descent and needed to prepare for getting wet.
After an incident in 2001, the park installed new four-point harness systems and redesigned boats. These changes altered the ride experience and increased safety measures noticeably.
