Olympia Gold Classic, Women's golf tournament in Los Angeles, US
Olympia Gold Classic was a women's golf tournament held near Los Angeles across two separate courses. The competition featured 72 holes of stroke play with a total purse of approximately 150,000 dollars.
The tournament began in 1978 as the Sunstar Classic and was renamed in 1981 when Olympia Brewing Company took on as title sponsor. After several years of competition, the event concluded in 1982.
The tournament brought together top female golfers and became part of the professional circuit where players built their resumes. Winning here meant joining a small group of champions in an era when opportunities for women in golf were still limited.
The event was split between two golf courses in the Los Angeles area, so visitors needed to plan which location to attend. The competition typically occurred during the regular golf season when course conditions were optimal.
Sally Little won this tournament twice consecutively in 1981 and 1982, which turned out to be the final two editions. Her back-to-back victories came just as the event was about to end.
