Pomona College, Liberal arts college in Claremont, United States.
Pomona College is a liberal arts institution in Claremont, California, with red-brick buildings and open green spaces spread across roughly 140 acres. Architect Myron Hunt arranged the structures so that walking from one to another follows clear sightlines.
The campus opened in 1887 through a Congregationalist community and stood as the only college in the area at that time. Beginning in 1925, the Claremont Colleges consortium gradually formed around it.
Students participate in 21 athletic teams known as the Sagehens, competing jointly with Pitzer College in NCAA Division III events across multiple sports disciplines.
The institution shares its course offerings with other consortium members, so students can choose from more than 2700 courses across several campuses. Pathways between buildings are short and clearly marked.
The number symbol 47 appears in many traditions and celebrations at the institution, often hidden in artwork or speeches. This motif has become a popular recognition sign among students.
