Claremont, Educational city in Los Angeles County, California.
Claremont is a city in Los Angeles County, California, that extends at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. Residential streets with low buildings and green spaces alternate with college campuses that occupy large parts of the place.
The incorporation took place in 1907 when railroad lines connected the region with the rest of California. Several private colleges formed in the following decades and shaped the character of the place.
The name comes from an estate in New Hampshire and fits the many trees that surround the place. Students from different countries shape the street scene with cafés and small bookstores along the Village intersection.
Metrolink trains connect the place with Union Station in Los Angeles, while local buses run through the San Gabriel Valley. Most facilities lie within walking distance of each other, especially around the center with its shops.
Many American elms have developed natural resistance to Dutch elm disease here and still grow in many streets. These trees contribute to the official recognition as Tree City USA.
