March Air Reserve Base, Military aerodrome and air base in Riverside County, United States
March Air Reserve Base is a military aerodrome and air base in Riverside County, California, located between the cities of Riverside, Moreno Valley, and Perris. The base serves as home station for reserve and active-duty air force units and maintains runways for tactical and strategic airlift aircraft.
The military installation opened in 1918 as a pilot training field during World War I and was initially called Alessandro Flying Training Field. Following the death of Lieutenant Peyton C. March Jr., the facility received its present name and has remained an active air force installation for over a century.
The March Field Airfest draws thousands of visitors to witness military aircraft performances and connect with the armed forces community.
Access to the base requires valid military identification or prior authorization, as it is a restricted military facility. Visitors should expect security checks and credential verification at entry control points.
The base sits in a seismically active region of Southern California and features special reinforcements in buildings and runways to withstand earthquakes. Aircraft here are regularly deployed for humanitarian missions and disaster relief, including wildfire response and evacuations across the western region.
