Abdou Building, Office building in downtown El Paso, United States.
The Abdou Building is a seven-story office structure with reinforced concrete construction standing at the corner of Texas Avenue and Mesa Street. Its irregular quadrilateral shape creates a distinctive form that follows the street layout.
Rio Grande Valley Bank commissioned the structure in 1909, and Sam Abdou later purchased it in 1925, establishing the name that persists today. The building reflects the financial development of downtown El Paso during this era.
The building displays Chicago-style architecture with distinctive three-part window divisions and a marble-lined entrance hall featuring bronze grilles that visitors can still observe.
The structure sits on a corner with excellent visibility and can be viewed from the public sidewalk, with the facade and entrance hall easily accessible to pedestrians. Following the 2019 renovation, the upper floors now contain residential units that are not open to the public.
The structure features an unusual ground plan where no two sides run parallel, a result of the irregular street corner and building constraints of that era. This asymmetrical shape is an interesting architectural detail that visitors often overlook when passing by.
