Alameda Park Zoo

Alameda Park Zoo is a facility spanning about 12 acres where approximately 265 animals representing around 90 different species can be seen in naturalistic settings. The animals live in enclosures designed to reflect their natural environments and behavior patterns.

The zoo was founded in 1898 and began as a place to entertain train passengers during refueling stops in town. Over time, it grew from a simple attraction into an institution focused on animal care and scientific research.

The zoo serves as a place where families come to learn about animals and their habitats, offering hands-on educational programs that help visitors of all ages understand wildlife better.

The grounds feature paved paths that allow visitors to view enclosures while moving comfortably throughout the facility, with shaded areas available for rest. It is best to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially during warmer times of year.

The facility participates in a conservation program dedicated to protecting Mexican wolves and ensuring their survival across North America. This work demonstrates how zoos contribute to serious scientific efforts beyond just displaying animals.
