Cocos Island National Park

Located 532 kilometers off Costa Rica's Pacific coast, this rectangular island measures 7.6 kilometers long and 4.4 kilometers wide with dense rainforest.

The Spanish navigator Juan Cabezas discovered the island in 1526, and it first appeared on cartographic maps in 1541 under the name Coques.

The island served as a refuge for pirates including Morgan, Edward Davies, and William Thompson, who reportedly concealed valuable treasures within its terrain.

Access to the national park requires extensive boat travel, and visitors can engage in scuba diving expeditions to observe marine wildlife.

During intense rainfall periods, more than 2000 waterfalls cascade from the island into the ocean, with annual precipitation reaching 7000 millimeters.
