Playa Carrillo

Spiaggia Carrillo is a beach along a curved bay featuring white sand, lined with palm trees and bookended by rocky headlands that provide natural protection. The waters remain calm and shallow throughout the year, making it accessible for swimming and water activities.

The beach remained remote and difficult to access until a direct road completed in 2006 connected it to the town of Nicoya. This development transformed how people could reach the area without changing its fundamental character.

You can see local cowboys moving cattle through the southern part of the beach, keeping alive the ranching traditions that have shaped the Guanacaste region for generations. This sight connects the coastal area to the inland rural culture of the province.

The beach holds Blue Flag status, confirming high standards for water quality and safety that visitors can rely on. The broad sandy area provides ample space for swimming, walking, and relaxation without feeling crowded.

Unlike many other coastal destinations, this beach has no structures built along the shoreline, keeping unobstructed views of the natural surroundings intact. This makes it uncommon in a region where beachfront development is typical.
