Las Victorias, National park in Cobán, Guatemala
Las Victorias is a national park near Cobán and covers roughly 82 hectares of forested land with several ponds and marked walking paths. The area sits at 1,200 meters (3,900 feet) elevation and includes picnic areas, camping spots, and trails for visitors to explore.
The site was once a coffee plantation established by French grower Jules Rossignon in the 19th century. It was converted into a protected national park during the 1980s to preserve the land for public use.
Local families and groups gather here to spend time together outdoors and connect with nature away from the city. The park serves as an important green space where residents find a place to walk, relax, and enjoy forests and water.
The park is centrally located in Cobán and easy to reach; wear comfortable shoes since the trails can be muddy and slippery, especially during wetter months. Bring water and insect repellent if you plan to spend time walking through the forested areas.
The park supports multiple forest types and different wildlife species within its relatively small boundaries, making it a valuable refuge for local animals. This diversity allows visitors to encounter several distinct ecosystems during a single visit.
