El Paraíso Department, Administrative department in eastern Honduras.
El Paraíso is an administrative department in eastern Honduras bordering Nicaragua. It comprises 19 municipalities with Yuscarán serving as the capital, along with numerous rural villages spread across the region.
The region was established in 1869 through a reorganization of territories from neighboring administrative areas. This restructuring formed the foundation for the current division into municipalities and villages.
Each municipality celebrates its own traditions and festivals that shape daily life. In Las Selvas, people gather for their flower and coffee festival, while Yuscarán and Danlí host events honoring mangoes and corn.
The region is primarily agricultural, with coffee, tobacco, corn, and sugar cane grown across different areas. Visiting allows you to see rural structures and understand how these communities work.
Yuscarán, the capital, is a colonial city with monumental status and historical importance. It is known for producing a local brandy that carries the city's name and is recognized throughout Honduras.
