La Ceiba

La Ceiba is a city on the northern coast of Honduras, positioned between Mount Bonito and the Caribbean Sea. The place stretches along the coastline with a natural harbor and several neighborhoods that spread inland.

The city was founded in 1872 by Manuel Hernández and takes its name from a large ceiba tree near the old dock. This tree marked the original settlement point and shaped the identity of the place from the start.

The annual carnival draws visitors who experience traditional music, dance performances, and local dishes together in the streets. This celebration shapes the social life of the city and brings people from different communities together.

Golosón International Airport and the seaport provide different arrival options for travelers heading to the Bay Islands or other destinations. Being close to the coast makes it easy to access boat connections and island trips.

The city is home to the world's largest banana chip and puree production facility. This factory is a major employer and a sign of how important banana processing is to the region.
