Cota, Municipality in Cundinamarca Department, Colombia.
Cota is a municipality in Cundinamarca Department in the Bogotá metropolitan area, situated at about 2,566 meters in elevation. The locality borders Chía and Funza and covers roughly 55 square kilometers.
The municipality was founded in 1604 by order of the Spanish colonial administration. In 1873, the administrative center was moved to a new location called Tres Esquinas.
The name comes from the Muisca language, referring to indigenous roots in the region. This linguistic connection reminds visitors of the original people who shaped this area before European arrival.
The area is well-connected by road and sits roughly 26 kilometers from Bogotá. This proximity to the capital makes daily trips convenient for people living or working here.
A special feature here is Colombia's Space School, which partners with a NASA educational program. Since 2009, people can pursue specialized aerospace courses at this institution.
