Teleférico de Monserrate, Cable car transportation system in eastern Bogotá, Colombia.
The orange-colored cable car system extends 820 meters from the base of the Eastern Hills to the summit of Monserrate at 3,152 meters elevation.
The cable car began operations on September 27, 1955, after construction started in 1953 to serve increasing numbers of religious visitors to Monserrate.
The cable car leads to Monserrate Monastery, which contains the religious relic El Señor Caído and receives numerous pilgrims throughout the year.
The system operates from Monday to Saturday between 06:30 and 21:00, and Sundays from 06:30 to 19:00, with cabins accommodating 35 passengers per trip.
The computerized cable car system undergoes regular maintenance with support cables replaced every 70 years and pulling cables every 35 years for safety.
