Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de las Aguas

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de las Aguas is a rectangular church with a single nave located in Bogotá's old quarter. The interior is lit by rectangular windows and features pointed arch niches along the walls that hold religious statues.

Construction of the church began in the mid 17th century and took several decades to complete. It was originally built as part of a larger complex that included a convent, hospital, and orphanage.

The interior displays a large carved and gilded wood triptych covering the entire rear wall, showing colonial artistic traditions from centuries past. This artwork tells the story of religious devotion and the craftsmanship that people treasured in their place of worship.

The church is easily accessible on foot from the street in the historic district of the city. Visitors should note that it closes during certain hours and it is wise to check the schedule before planning a visit.

The north side houses a neo-Gothic chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony that was added in the early 20th century. This chapel connects to the main altar area through an unusually wide archway, showing how the original building was modified over time.
