BD Bacatá, Building complex in central Bogotá, Colombia.
BD Bacatá is a building complex in central Bogotá consisting of two towers reaching 260 meters and 216 meters in height, forming the tallest structures in Colombia together. The two towers share a common base with shops and public areas, while the upper floors house apartments, offices, and a hotel.
Construction began in 2011 as the first high-rise project in the country after three decades and marked a turning point in Colombian architectural history. The project was funded by private investors from the population, who together made the development possible.
The name refers to the original inhabitants of the region, the Muisca, whose tribal leader was called Bacatá and gave the area its name. Visitors today find a public lobby on the ground floor where residents meet for coffee or use the passage areas.
The site is centrally located and easy to reach on foot from the surrounding streets and squares, with entrances clearly marked. Visitors should explore the public areas on the ground floor during usual business hours, when the passage and shops are open.
The project was the first high-rise worldwide funded through crowdfunding with more than 3800 private contributors from the population. This form of collective participation created a new model for large construction projects in Latin America.
