El Tiempo Building

El Tiempo Building is a modernist seven-story structure located in downtown Bogotá featuring an L-shaped form with three distinct facade sections. The exterior displays rectangular windows combined with local stone cladding that gives the building its characteristic appearance.

The building was completed in 1961 as a commemoration of El Tiempo newspaper's 50th anniversary, designed by architect Bruno Violi. This construction marked an important moment in Colombia's media infrastructure development.

The building served as the headquarters for El Tiempo, Colombia's most influential newspaper, shaping how journalism developed in the country. Its presence in downtown Bogotá made it a recognizable landmark for generations of readers and residents.

The building sits at the intersection of Carrera Séptima and Avenida Jiménez in the heart of downtown Bogotá and is easy to reach on foot. Today it functions as part of Universidad del Rosario, so viewing is best from the exterior.

The facade incorporates stone sourced from the Bogotá region, showing how modernist design principles were combined with locally available Colombian building materials. This material choice reflected architectural trends of the era across South America.
