Catedral Basílica Metropolitana Nuestra Señora del Rosario, Catholic cathedral in Manizales, Colombia
The Catedral Basílica Metropolitana Nuestra Señora del Rosario is a Gothic Revival cathedral at the center of Manizales in Colombia. Four corner towers surround a tall central spire, and the facade displays stone arches and pointed windows.
Construction started in 1928 following a design by French architect Julien Polti. An Italian construction firm completed the work eleven years later and opened the building for worship.
The building takes its name from the Virgin of the Rosary, honored by the local Catholic community through daily masses and special celebrations. Visitors often gather on the steps before entering the main hall, where columns and arches frame the interior space.
The interior holds several thousand people and is accessible through multiple entrances along the facade. A climb through the Polish Corridor leads to a viewing point at considerable height.
A bronze altar canopy above the main altar rests on several columns. This type of canopy is rare in Colombia, with similar structures existing only in a few locations.
