Museum of Costa Rican Art

This museum holds paintings, sculptures, and contemporary works created by artists from the region and beyond. The spaces bring together traditional and newer artistic approaches side by side.

The building was founded in 1977 using the former terminal area of San Jose's old airport. Converting a historic transportation site into an art space marked an important shift for cultural facilities.

The collection showcases work by local artists whose pieces tell stories about creative expression in the country. Visitors can see how different generations of creators developed their own voices and approaches to art.

The experience is split between outdoor and indoor spaces, which means visitors need time to see everything comfortably. There are seating areas throughout, especially in the garden sections.

Large sculptures by local artists are displayed throughout the outdoor garden in a park setting. Inside, a striking mural by a French artist adds an unexpected cross-cultural element to the collection.
