Miraflores, Navigation lock at Panama Canal, Panama

The Miraflores lock system raises and lowers vessels by 54 feet through two chambers, connecting the Pacific Ocean to Balboa port.

The construction of Miraflores locks in 1914 marked a turning point for global maritime trade by creating a direct route between two oceans.

The Miraflores Visitor Center exhibits multiple artifacts and documents that tell the story of Panama's connection to international maritime transportation.

Visitors can access three observation terraces, an IMAX theater, and viewing platforms to watch ships passing through the locks from 6 AM to 6 PM.

The lock chambers fill with 26 million gallons of water in just 8 minutes, allowing massive cargo vessels to transit between sea levels.

Panama features a variety of photographic settings, from the colonial district of Casco Viejo to the fine sandy beaches of the San Blas Islands. Panama City combines historic heritage and modern architecture, including Frank Gehry's Biomuseo and the Miraflores locks that showcase canal engineering. Walks such as Cinta Costera or Amador Causeway offer views over the bay and the city skyline. Beyond the city, the country reveals rich and accessible nature. The Baru volcano rises over 3400 meters in Chiriquí province, while the Bocas del Toro archipelago hosts secluded beaches with turquoise waters.
