Guillermo Piñeres Botanical Garden, Tropical botanical garden in Turbaco, Colombia.
Guillermo Piñeres Botanical Garden is a nine-hectare site in Turbaco with a preserved natural forest and specialized plant collections. Over 300 species from Colombian tropical dry forests grow here in various themed garden sections.
The site opened in 1978 after María Jiménez de Piñeres donated the land to honor her late husband Guillermo Piñeres and protect the ecosystem. This founding created an important refuge for the region's threatened dry forest plants.
The site serves as a working study center where students and researchers examine plants and participate in conservation projects. The extensive collection of preserved plant specimens and seed bank allows scientists to document and protect the diversity of tropical dry forest flora.
The garden is located about 30 minutes from downtown Cartagena and opens six days per week. Guided tours are available so visitors can explore the plant areas with expert assistance.
Natural springs supply the garden with fresh water year-round and enable the growth of rare mushroom species. These special moisture conditions make the site noteworthy for those studying fungi and nature.
