Waterfort, Coastal fort in Willemstad, Curaçao
The Waterfort extends along the entrance of Sint Anna Bay, featuring thick stone walls and defensive positions facing the Caribbean Sea.
This military fortification, constructed in 1827, protected Willemstad's harbor from naval attacks throughout the nineteenth century.
The structure represents Dutch colonial military architecture and continues to serve as a central point for maritime heritage education in Curaçao.
Visitors can access the fort daily from the Punda district, with guided tours available that explain the defense systems and harbor operations.
The fort's interior chambers, originally designed for ammunition storage, maintain constant temperatures due to the thick limestone construction methods.
