La Merced Cloister, Catholic convent in Centro Histórico, Mexico City.
The cloister features a central courtyard with Doric columns on the ground floor and decorated arches displaying medallions of apostles and Mercedarian friars.
The Mercedarian order started construction of this religious complex in 1595, with the cloister remaining as the sole surviving structure after the 1862 Reform Laws.
The building's preservation owes much to artist Dr. Atl, who lived there in the 1920s and undertook essential restoration work of the patio and balustrades.
The convent stands at República de Uruguay 170 in Mexico City's historic center, near the La Merced neighborhood and its namesake metro station.
The upper floor exhibits fourteen intricately carved columns adorned with lattices, foliage, and fruit patterns, doubling the number of columns on the ground level.
