Leon Trotsky House Museum, Political museum in Coyoacán, Mexico.
The Leon Trotsky House in Coyoacan was the final residence of the revolutionary leader and preserves his study, personal belongings, and photographs in mostly original condition. The rooms offer insight into his daily life during his exile in Mexico.
The revolutionary arrived in Mexico in 1929 at Diego Rivera's invitation after being exiled from the Soviet Union. An attack attempt in his study in 1940 permanently changed the security of the place.
Original documents and writings from the 1930s cover the walls, showing how this place connects to Mexico's leftist history. Visitors from Russia and Latin America often pause and speak quietly about these memories.
The visit takes about one to two hours and guided tours are offered in several languages so you can fully understand the rooms. The courtyard at the end of the tour offers a quiet place to pause.
The tall protective walls and towers made of steel and concrete were built after an attack attempt and define the place's outer appearance today. The tomb in the garden features a red metal star designed by a Mexican architect.
