Nicolás Romero is a municipality in the north-central part of the State of Mexico covering roughly 235 square kilometers and home to more than 430,000 people. The territory includes several communities and offers a mix of urban zones and rural landscapes with access to mountain ranges and valleys.
The area was originally called Azcapotzaltongo and named after Aztec conquests of Otomí settlements. The current name was given in 1898 to honor a hero of the Reform War.
