Torre Reforma, Office skyscraper at Paseo de la Reforma, Mexico City, Mexico.
Torre Reforma is a concrete office tower at the intersection of Paseo de la Reforma and Río Elba in Mexico City. Two massive concrete walls meet at a sharp angle and form the structure that rises 246 meters high and contains 57 floors above ground plus 9 basement levels.
Construction began in 2008 on a site that once held a nightclub, with the challenge of incorporating a protected 1929 house into the lobby space. This combination of old and new reflects the transition the neighborhood has experienced over recent decades.
The structure shapes the skyline along Paseo de la Reforma and changes the face of the neighborhood with a clean, modern presence. Many locals use the street level as part of their commute and experience the tower as a reference point in daily city life.
The tower holds office space, ground-level retail shops, a gym, and underground parking with room for more than 1000 vehicles. Most public areas sit at street level, while upper floors remain private for tenants.
Windows with triple height are placed at regular intervals every four floors and serve as joints that can move during earthquakes. These openings allow the building to flex slightly and absorb seismic energy without the concrete walls cracking.
