The McAllen Junior League established the museum in 1967, and it moved to its current location on Nolana Avenue during the 1976 Bicentennial Project.

The museum operates Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with adult admission at 9 dollars.
The Discovery Pavilion combines hands-on scientific experimentation with artistic expression through interactive exhibits designed for children and families.
