Los Fresnos, Administrative division in Cameron County, Texas, US

Los Fresnos is a small city located in Cameron County in south Texas. It sits in a rural setting with farms and open lands that define much of the area's character.

The city was founded in 1912 when a landowner built an irrigation system from the Rio Grande to support farming in the area. This water system made settlement and growth possible in what had been dry land.

The name comes from ash trees that once grew throughout this part of south Texas, reflecting what the landscape looked like centuries ago. Walking around town, you can sense how farming and ranching have always shaped the way people live here.

The area is served by local schools that support families and public transportation connects different parts of town. Plan your visit during the cooler months, as summers here get very hot and dry.

Every February, a rodeo and livestock show brings ranchers and farmers from across the region to compete and exhibit their animals. This yearly event highlights how important cattle raising remains to the local economy and way of life.
