Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Queen of Peace

Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Queen of Peace, is a red brick building in Gothic Revival style with a truncated tower and lancet windows featuring stained glass. The facade and buttresses display distinctive patterned brickwork throughout.

The building was constructed in 1918 by Vincent Falbo and M. Deodati, reflecting the faith of the local community. It received recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in June 1983.

The church interior displays pressed metal ceilings with cross motifs and Corinthian columns that separate the nave from the side aisles. These elements create a focused space where visitors can experience the spiritual character of the building.

The church sits along FM 340 in Sweet Home and is easy to spot from the road. Visitors can readily approach the building as it stands prominently along the street.

The apse holds a mural depicting the Ascension of Christ, a rare artistic touch in this type of building. Stenciled beams feature interlocking circles and snowflake patterns throughout.
