Gonzales County Courthouse is a three-story courthouse in Gonzales, Texas, built with red brick walls and white limestone trim. The building displays Romanesque Revival and Second Empire architectural features across its exterior.
This courthouse was built between 1894 and 1896 after fire destroyed the previous structure. Architect James Riely Gordon designed the building.
The courthouse maintains its position as the central location for judicial proceedings, governmental meetings, and civil ceremonies in Gonzales County since the 19th century.
The courthouse stands in downtown Gonzales and continues to house county offices and courtrooms in active use. The location is easy to find and visitors can view the building from the street.
White limestone trim came from a local quarry while red bricks were transported from St. Louis. This material choice reflects how construction supplies were sourced in the 1890s.
