Magnolia Hotel, Historic hotel building in Seguin, Texas.
The Magnolia Hotel is a two-story structure that combines two distinct building techniques from different periods. Inside are two bedrooms, a living room, and a private bathroom with modern fixtures, all arranged to accommodate small groups visiting the area.
The building started in 1840 as a modest two-room log structure built by James Campbell to shelter travelers. A substantial stone addition came later that expanded its importance as a central stop along major travel routes until the middle of the century.
The hotel is woven into Seguin's commercial heart and reflects how the town grew around key stopping points for travelers. Visitors can see how a simple structure evolved to serve multiple purposes in community life.
The upstairs living area sleeps up to four people and is accessed via an exterior door with a temporary code provided to guests. The building's two-part construction means visitors move between sections with slightly different layouts and materials.
A notable moment in local history unfolded here when a renowned Texas Ranger married into a local family within the building's stone section. This connection links the place to a figure whose actions shaped early Texas history.
