Seguin is a county seat in Guadalupe County, central Texas, positioned along the Guadalupe River at an elevation of 159 meters. The surrounding area consists of agricultural land, and the town serves as an administrative hub for the rural region.
The settlement was founded in 1838 by Gonzales Rangers and veterans of the Republic and was originally called Walnut Springs. In 1839, it received its current name in honor of Juan Nepomuceno Seguín.
The town takes its name from Juan Nepomuceno Seguín, a Tejano statesman and military leader who played a role during the Texas Revolution. Reminders of these Texan-Mexican roots appear in street names and public buildings, forming part of the local identity today.
