Katherine Anne Porter House, Historic author house in Kyle, Texas.

The Katherine Anne Porter House is a single-story, L-shaped wood-frame house at 508 West Center Street in Kyle, Texas. Built in 1890, it has a projecting front wing, an attached shed-roof porch, and a rare cross-hipped roof. The rear and east side have a wrap-around screened porch.

Built in 1890 by Porter's widowed grandmother, Catherine Anne "Aunt Cat" Porter, the house sheltered the writer's family from 1892 until it was sold in 1902. After years of decline it was bought and restored in 1997, work finished in April 2000. It was dedicated a National Literary Landmark by First Lady Laura Bush on June 13, 2002, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

The house is owned by the Hays County Preservation Associates and leased to Southwest Texas State University, whose creative writing program runs a writers-in-residence program based here. Porter lived in the cramped home with her grandmother "Aunt Cat" from 1892 until 1902.

The house is open to visitors by scheduled appointment only and located on West Center Street in Kyle. Guided tours walk through the rooms and explain the significance of the space to those interested in American literature.

The Porter family sold the house in 1902 for just $10. Its roof is a rare cross-hipped style, unusual among the L-plan houses of Kyle. First Lady Laura Bush dedicated it as a National Literary Landmark on June 13, 2002.
