Isabella Court, Historic residential building in Midtown, Houston, US
Isabella Court is a three-story building on South Main Street with protruding balconies and a red tile roof throughout its length. The exterior features stuccoed walls in Spanish Colonial style, while ground floor spaces serve commercial purposes and upper levels contain residential units.
The building was constructed between 1928 and 1929 by architect William D. Bordeaux following the Spanish Colonial Revival style popular in Texas at that time. It was designed as a mixed-use property when the neighborhood was beginning to develop as an urban center.
The building reflects Spanish Colonial design traditions through its crafted details and decorative elements visible on every side. Today artists and professionals occupy the spaces, giving the place an active creative character.
The building sits near the METRORail Red Line making it accessible by public transportation. The Midtown location is flat and walkable, making it straightforward to explore the surroundings on foot.
After the METRORail Red Line was completed, the building underwent renovations that earned it recognition as the best artistic transformation at a local award. The commercial spaces became fully leased as new transit access drew more people to the neighborhood.
