Originally an exotic herding ranch in 1973, Tom Mantzel transformed the property into a conservation center, opening to visitors in 1984.
The center participates in the Species Survival Plan, partnering with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to protect endangered species.
Visitors drive through a 7.2-mile route from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM daily, observing animals from their vehicles in natural environments.
The facility maintains successful breeding programs for scimitar-horned oryx and Attwater's prairie chicken, contributing to species preservation.
