Mrs. Sam Houston House, Historic house in Independence, Texas.

The two-story cedar wood house on Farm Road 390 features Greek Revival architecture with symmetrical proportions and traditional column design elements.

Margaret Lea Houston, widow of Texas statesman Sam Houston, acquired this residence in 1864 and lived there until her death in 1867.

The house represents architectural preferences of mid-19th century Texas society, reflecting the period when Independence ranked among the wealthiest communities.

The building stands one block east of Farm Road 50 junction, offering visitors opportunities to explore Greek Revival residential architecture from the 1840s.

The Williams family maintained ownership of this cedar wood structure for 85 years, from 1898 until 1983, preserving its historical characteristics.
