The venue opened in November 1969 as Texas International Speedway and remained operational until 2017. During its most active years, it hosted NASCAR, ARCA, and Can-Am races.
The speedway served as venue for Willie Nelson's Fourth of July Picnic during the mid-1970s, combining motorsport with live music. These events drew thousands of attendees and established the facility as a stage for major cultural gatherings in Texas.
The complex sits along State Highway 6 near College Station. Teams used the track for testing under conditions that closely resembled actual racing situations.
