Commemorative Air Force, Aviation nonprofit organization in Dallas, United States
The Commemorative Air Force preserves and operates a collection of 170 military aircraft from World War II at multiple locations across the United States. The organization is headquartered at Dallas Executive Airport, where the Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center welcomes visitors.
The group began in 1957 with the purchase of a P-51 Mustang and expanded its mission to rescue historical military aircraft from being scrapped. Over the decades, the fleet grew steadily as volunteers from across the country joined to keep the planes airworthy.
Volunteers carry the honorary title of Colonel, a tradition dating back to the early years of the group. This structure reflects the way members work together today to maintain and present the historic aircraft to visitors.
Visitors can book flight experiences, attend educational programs, or join workshops at the site in Dallas Executive Airport. The easiest access is through the airport grounds, where parking is available and the center is clearly signposted.
The group maintains FIFI, a Boeing B-29 Superfortress, in flying condition. This is one of only two operational aircraft of this type worldwide and can be seen at air shows.
