Lake Nocona is a reservoir in northeastern Montague County covering about 516 hectares with a maximum depth of about 24 meters (80 feet). The water is fed by Farmer's Creek and offers multiple boat ramps throughout the property for fishing and boating access.
The lake was built in 1960 when the North Montague County Water Supply District constructed a dam across Farmer's Creek. This project created a new water supply source for the growing region.
The lake serves as a gathering place for the community, with three public parks where neighbors meet for events and celebrations. Independence Day fireworks light up the water each summer, making it a focal point for local traditions.
The lake is accessible year-round with good conditions for fishing and boating at several launch points. Visitors should arrive early to find parking near the parks, especially on weekends.
