Lake Athens is a reservoir in Henderson County, Texas, spanning nearly 1,800 acres with depths reaching about 50 feet. The water is typically moderately clear with dense plants such as water lilies and pondweed growing along the shoreline, especially in the upper sections.
The lake was founded in 1961 when dam construction began in September, with the basin filling by late 1962. The project was completed in 1963 and was designed to provide water supply for the region.
The lake is named after the nearby town and serves the local community as a gathering place for recreation and relaxation. People use it for fishing, boating, and spending time along the quiet water.
