Lewisville Lake, Recreational reservoir in North Texas, United States.
Lewisville Lake is a reservoir in Denton County in North Texas, United States. The water surface includes several wide coves and branching arms, surrounded by shallow shoreline zones and wooded hills.
An initial dam was built in 1927 to supply water to Dallas, before a larger dam was constructed in the 1950s. This expansion greatly increased the water surface and additionally enabled flood control for the growing settlements downstream.
The name comes from the nearby town of Lewisville, which developed during Texas settlement times. Today, local residents regularly use the water for fishing and water sports, with many boats gathering on the open surface on weekends.
Several access roads lead to different shoreline areas, allowing visitors to seek out quieter or busier zones depending on preference. Parking options and launch points are distributed along the entire shoreline, making orientation on-site easier.
In early summer, hundreds of boats gather in certain shallow coves, where owners drop anchor and celebrate together on the water. These informal gatherings often stretch over several hours and have become a fixed summer tradition for many.
