Ray Roberts Lake State Park is a large protected area with nine separate units surrounding a lake near Pilot Point. The grounds cover roughly 29,000 acres of water and surrounding natural lands with multiple access points.
The park was established in the 1990s through a partnership between Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and the cities of Dallas and Denton. This collaboration created a major recreation area for the surrounding region.
The park's different areas host ranger-led programs where visitors learn about outdoor skills and local wildlife in action. These activities help guests connect with the natural world in hands-on ways.
The park has multiple boat ramps, fishing piers, camping areas, and roughly a 20-mile trail system for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Arriving early helps secure good parking and access to your preferred activities.
The Greenbelt Corridor follows the Elm Fork of the Trinity River and links this lake to Lake Lewisville through natural wetland areas. This natural corridor provides habitat for wildlife while creating a green connection between the two water bodies.
