Bullwinkle, pile-supported fixed steel oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico
Bullwinkle is an oil and gas field located in the Gulf of Mexico on Green Canyon Block 65, sitting in water deeper than 410 meters. The fixed-leg platform serves as a production hub and connects to several nearby fields, functioning as a central facility for extracting and processing resources from multiple subsea locations.
The field was discovered in 1983 and began producing in 1989. Between 1987 and 1997, several neighboring fields were discovered and subsequently connected to Bullwinkle, creating an integrated network for resource extraction.
The platform is located far offshore in very deep waters and is only accessible by boat or helicopter. The site requires careful planning and safety precautions due to the extreme depth and harsh ocean conditions.
The platform has extracted more than 120 million barrels of oil and is expected to operate until around 2027 before being decommissioned. Despite declining reserves, it remains a significant production site for US energy supply.
