Gallier House, National Historic Landmark in French Quarter, New Orleans, USA.

Gallier House is a single-family home in New Orleans's French Quarter featuring classical design mixed with Italianate architectural details throughout its structure. The residence maintains its original cast iron gate at the Royal Street entrance and preserves rooms filled with period furnishings and family belongings.

James Gallier Jr., a prominent New Orleans architect, designed and built this house in 1857 for his own family to live in. The residence became a demonstration of the city's growing prosperity and architectural advancement during the mid-1800s.

The residence reflects how wealthy Creole families lived and entertained in the 1850s through its ornate parlors and carefully chosen furnishings. Walking through the rooms, you experience the social rituals and domestic habits of that era as they happened within these walls.

The house sits on an accessible street corner and interior spaces are compact, making a visit straightforward to plan. It is helpful to check tour times beforehand and consider booking ahead during busy seasons to ensure you can enter.

The house was remarkably advanced for its time with running hot and cold water, indoor plumbing, and a ventilation system that included an experimental skylight. These features showed how forward-thinking its architect owner was about comfort and modern living.
