The Romanesque Revival building features Gothic architectural elements, stone walls, arched windows, and a bell tower topped with a steeple added in 1940.
Construction of the present church structure began in September 1903, with the first Mass celebrated in April 1909 after replacing earlier wooden buildings.
The church maintains traditional Catholic practices through regular masses, sacraments, and religious education programs that serve the local French-influenced Louisiana community.
Weekly masses occur on Saturday at 4:00 PM, Sundays at 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, and 5:00 PM, with additional weekday services Monday through Friday.
Michel Prudhomme, who donated land for the church's construction, remains buried within the nave of the current building, connecting past and present generations.
