Auburn, Federal mansion in Natchez, United States

Auburn is a two-story mansion in Natchez with four Ionic columns forming a classically symmetrical facade, while wings extend outward from the central structure. The interior preserves the original freestanding spiral staircase and period furnishings.

The building was created in 1812 when architect Levi Weeks designed and constructed it for Lyman Harding. It was the first house in Mississippi Territory to display classical architecture in an organized manner.

The mansion displays classical proportions and formal spatial arrangement that visitors can still observe in its symmetrical facade and organized interior rooms. These design principles shape the impression visitors get when they enter the building today.

The mansion is located at Duncan Park and is open to visitors who can explore the rooms through guided tours. The location is easily accessible and visitors should allow adequate time for a full walk-through.

The property preserves a detached kitchen and servant quarters building from the 1830s, one of only a handful of such structures surviving in Mississippi. These rare outbuildings offer a glimpse into daily life during that period.
