Camp Clinton, World War II prisoner facility in Clinton, Mississippi

Camp Clinton was a military compound in Clinton, Mississippi, divided into three distinct sections with barracks, dining facilities, and medical buildings. The site could hold approximately 3000 prisoners in a fully secured perimeter.

The facility operated from 1943 to 1946 and interned senior German military leaders, including several generals and one admiral. It served as a prisoner camp for notable and influential captives during World War II.

German prisoners formed music groups and theater ensembles while participating in daily activities within the secured perimeter of the facility.

Visitors can explore the remains of the site to understand the layout and scale of World War II prisoner camps. The location features informative displays and landmarks to help navigate the different areas of the former complex.

The camp held approximately 35 German generals and one admiral, making it a center for high-ranking captured officers. Prisoners engaged in various work assignments, including supporting construction of the Mississippi River Basin Model.
