Seven Sisters Oak, Live oak tree in Mandeville, Louisiana, US
Seven Sisters Oak is a live oak in Mandeville, Louisiana, whose branches span 47 meters (153 feet), with a trunk measuring 12.5 meters (41 feet) in circumference and standing 18 meters (59 feet) tall. The tree grows on private land and remains visible from the road.
Federal foresters confirmed in 1976 that the tree grows from a single root system, after which it received membership number 697 in the Live Oak Society. Mrs. Carole Hendry Doby registered it under the name honoring her seven sisters.
The tree holds the title of president within the Live Oak Society, an organization dedicated to preserving old oaks. This role passed to the Seven Sisters after the Locke Breaux Oak was lost.
The tree stands on private property but can be viewed from outside. Visitors wishing to take photographs should seek permission from the owners beforehand.
The name honors the seven sisters of the woman who registered the tree. The wide crown formed through the simultaneous growth of several main branches from the same trunk.
