Battleship Memorial Park is a military memorial site in Mobile featuring two main vessels: the USS Alabama battleship and the USS Drum submarine, both designated as National Historic Landmarks. Located on the western shore of Mobile Bay, the grounds also display aircraft, tanks, and artillery pieces representing different eras of military history.

In May 1962 the USS Alabama was slated for scrapping with her South Dakota-class sister ships; Alabama schoolchildren raised about $100,000 in nickels and dimes to save her. The ship was turned over to the state on July 7, 1964 in Seattle, reached Mobile Bay on September 14, 1964, and opened as a museum on January 9, 1965. The submarine USS Drum, a World War II Gato-class boat, joined her in 1969 and was moved ashore in 2001.

The site honors those who served in the military across different branches of the armed forces. Walking through, you encounter planes, tanks, and guns that show the range of military service and sacrifice.

The park lies on the western shore of Mobile Bay, with USS Alabama at her berth and USS Drum on land behind her since 2001. Expect stairs and narrow passages aboard both vessels. A living history crew drill with reenactors in period uniforms is held six times a year.

The USS Drum submarine was moved ashore in 2001 and is among the most decorated submarines in American naval history. Its preservation demonstrates how communities value keeping these historical witnesses available for future generations to experience.
