GulfQuest Maritime Museum is a major exhibition about shipping and maritime life along the coast. The building resembles a container ship and offers visitors over 90 interactive stations spread across multiple levels.
The museum opened in 2015 and presents the maritime history of the Gulf region. It was built as a cultural institution to document the region's long relationship with the sea.
The exhibits show how the coastal region depends on maritime activities and what role shipping plays in people's lives here. You see how navigation, shipwreck recovery, and dealing with storms are woven into local identity.
You can use professional ship simulators to try navigation and ship operations yourself inside the museum. The space is well organized into different sections, so you can move at your own pace through the exhibits.
The museum houses a research lab about fire ants that arrived as stowaways on banana ships in the port. These tiny invaders show how shipping unintentionally brought new species to the region.
